I have a school who has purchased the F & P Classroom Shared Reading resources. One of the teachers is wondering why these books are not leveled? They include 1 big book along with 6 smaller books of the same title. I think I know the answer to her question but I am wanting to confirm it with other people who are using the F & P Classroom in their classes!

The only time leveled texts should be used are at the guided reading table. The levels are to guide the teachers in making appropriate instructional decisions for small groups. There is no need to level texts for any other purpose. There are suggestions for selecting texts for each grade level under each component of the responsive literacy framework, but they do not need to be leveled since the teacher support is still available in those lessons.
