If a student fails the comprehension section on a running record do you still move the student to the next level?

Please refer to the charts on page 44 of the Benchmark Assessment Guide titled: Finding the Three Levels, A–K and L-Z. The chart indicates the scores needed for identifying all three levels. Also, refer to page 16: “Have the child continue to read until he reads with less than 90% accuracy for levels A–K, or less than 95% accuracy for levels L–N, or if his comprehension falls into the limited or not proficient ranges. A text can be read with high accuracy but be “hard” if comprehension is insufficient.”

Therefore, in your example, if the student fails the comprehension section, it would mean that the level is hard.

We wish you success,
