We are implementing the F & P Word Study components in our K,1st and 2nd grade classrooms for the first time this fall. We had an an initial training/introduction last spring and the teachers had time to open the Ready Resources and organize their materials. One question that came up was what to do with the Action tags that come with each lesson? The teachers didn't find an answer in the lesson guides. Another question that came up is with the general resources. For example, the second grade kit has lots of long vowel cards in addition to the lesson specific materials. When do the teachers use the cards/materials from the general resources? Do they go with a specific lesson? Are they for extra practice in a center? There are so many nice resources--but it is not clear how and when to use them. Thank you for helping!

Most of those details are in the front sections of the PWS Minilesson Guides. The Action tags are listed on the first page of the lesson then demonstrated in the Apply section of the lesson. They are brief reminders of the directions for the Apply section of the lesson.

It may be helpful to view the videos, Materials Overview page and Assessment Overview page to get started. The Ready Resources include many extras so teachers can individualize for classroom literacy tasks. You will figure out which ones you need and which can be filed away or shared with others. Some of them can be used for the Word Work part of Guided Reading lessons to reinforce principles for fast, fluent, and flexible solving. Some 2nd graders may need reteaching of lessons from first grade principles so the resources are included.

Best wishes as you learn how to implement this valuable resource!
